FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Revolution Reserves (0-4-3, 3 pts.) and the Red Bull New York Reserves (2-2-1, 7 pts.) drew 1-1 on Saturday night under the lights at Gillette Stadium. New York's David Arvizu opened the scoring in the 35th minute but Revolution forward Willie Sims scored the equalizer with a header off a Ryan Latham corner kick in 73rd minute as both teams earned a point in MLS Reserve Division play.

The Revolution Reserves went on the attack early as Sims took a pass from midfielder Andy Williamson then carried the ball through the center to rip a shot that deflected over the crossbar. Sims continued to pressure New York's back line as he took a couple of strong touches at the top of the box before his shot was denied by Red Bulls goalkeeper Jon Conway in the 14th minute and a minute later Sims' low, hard shot to the left post was deflected wide.

In the 16th minute, Revs midfielder Tony Lochhead played a ball down to the left flank corner for Williamson who carried the ball back towards the center channel but his shot from 17 yards out went wide left. In the 34th minute, Williamson, on the left flank, found defender Anders Kelto making a run through the center but Conway stopped Kelto's header attempt.

The Red Bulls' counterattack could not muster much until the 35th minute when midfielder Jerrod Laventure passed from his right flank position to Arvizu who slotted the ball inside the near post to give New York a 1-0 lead.

Shortly before halftime, Williamson found Revolution midfielder Ryan Latham streaking down the right flank but Conway came off his line to deny Latham's scoring attempt.

Sims looked to even the score line for the Rev Reserves just after halftime in the 48th minute when he broke through the Red Bulls defense, but Conway denied his shot towards the left post from 18 yards.

New York came close to doubling their lead in the 58th minute when Laventure dribbled through three Revolution defenders, rounded keeper T.J. Tommasso, only to have his shot skid pass the right post. In the 61st minute, Red Bulls forward Jean Philippe Peguero's freekick attempt from 20 yards out on the left center channel sailed well over the bar.

The Revs, still pressing for the equalizer, went back on the attack as Williamson played a well-timed cross from his left flank position through to Sims, who's one timer attempt hit the side netting in the 69th minute. In the 73rd minute, Latham worked well in the corner to earn a corner kick. The Texas native took the corner kick, finding rookie Sims in the center of the box who headed it straight on past Conway, to notch the score at 1-1.

Both sides pressured in the waning minutes as they looked for the lead and 3 points. New York forward Danny Wynn broke lose down the left flank, carried the ball in through the center before blasting a shot over the bar in the 82nd minute.

In the 86th minute, Sims broke down the Red Bulls defense again along the right endline, passed to defender Jani Galik who failed to put his first-time effort on frame. In stoppage time, Revolution second-half substitute Matt Cross played a ball in for Kelto whose header took a deflection over the bar.
