After a disappointing injury-plagued 2006 campaign, Chad Barrett was looked upon by the coaching staff to provide the punch up top for the Fire in 2007. For Barrett, it was a chance to show that after fully recovering from both groin and foot injuries that limited his appearances, he was then ready to become a starting contributor for the "Men in Red". The 22-year-old forward did just that, becoming the Fire's top scorer in 2007 while appearing in all 30 regular season and three postseason games. Barrett led the squad with a career-high and team-leading seven goals and two assists, earning the 2007 Fire/Budweiser Golden Boot award.

Entering the season, Barrett's 13 career goals are 13th on the club's all-time regular season list. Following a strong 2007 campaign, the Oregon native was selected to train in Spain with the Generation adidas program and was named by U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team head coach Peter Nowak among 24 players to participate in the team's final training camp before 2008 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying. Now 23, Barrett has graduated from the Generation adidas program and the coaching staff will once again look to the talented striker to provide strength in the attack.
