A veteran goalkeeper with experience gained through eight years in Major League Soccer and five years in the United Soccer Leagues, Jon Busch once again took the starting position in the net for the 2009 season and made the most of his opportunity. Busch was the only Fire player to start and play 90 minutes in every regular season match and earned a goals-against average of 1.13 and 10 shutouts (tied for second best in league trailing only Zach Thornton (12)). In 2008, Busch earned the honor of MLS Goalkeeper of the Year and was named the 2008 Chicago Fire MVP. Participated in the first national team training camps of 2009 in advance of a friendly against Sweden and a World Cup Qualifier against Mexico.
Busch has championship-winning familiarity, guiding his former club to a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championship in 2002 and a league-record 18-game unbeaten run in 2004. Busch still remains the Crew's all-time saves leader (367) and ranks first in games played (84), games started (83), and minutes played (7,520).
