The Chicago Fire signed Colombian international defender Wilman Conde to the team's 28-man roster late in the 2007 regular season after a successful career with former club Millonarios. Conde made an immediate impact for the Fire by starting and playing 90 minutes against the Columbus Crew on September 8, notching a game-winning assist in the 1-0 victory on the road. The 24-year old appeared in seven games during the second half of the Fire season, missing one game due to a red card ejection after the acquisition of two yellow cards in the September 15 match against the New York Red Bulls.
Through seven games played, Conde gave full 90-minute performances in five of them, solidifying his position as a rising star on Chicago's backline. With a composed Conde in the back, the Fire never lost a regular season game in 2007, compiling a 3-0-4 record with the Cali, Colombia native in the lineup. Conde continued to play every minute through three postseason tests, helping the Fire earn a 1-0 shutout win against D.C. United in game one of the Eastern Conference Semifinal Series on October 25 at TOYOTA PARK and advance through game two in a 2-2 draw with United in the nation's capital. Now fully-settled into the Fire lineup, the Fire coaching staff expects Conde to continue to deliver more consistent defensive performances for the "Men in Red" in 2008.
