ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

The Chicago Fire, in conjunction with the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association, names the Boys' and Girls' High School Soccer All-State All-Academic Team each season. High school coaches from across the state nominate boys and girls that have earned a G.P.A. of 'B' or higher, have been involved in their high school soccer program for a minimum of three seasons, as well as have participated in at least one other school or community related extra-curricular activity. 22 students are selected each year, with the Fire also recognizing dozens of additional students on its Special Mention and Honorable Mention teams. Each spring and fall, the All-State All-Academic Teams are honored at the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association All-State Banquet, while the Fire also recognizes the student-athletes during a halftime ceremony at a Chicago Fire home game. SCORING THROUGH EDUCATION

Scoring Through Education" is a FREE in-class incentive program designed to help motivate students to achieve educational success. The program serves as a tool for teachers who seek unique tactics to help enhance their classroom activities.

How "Scoring Through Education" works:

  • Teachers have the flexibility to set goals for their classroom and integrate the "Scoring Through Education" program into their curriculum as they see fit.
  • Teachers receive a welcome kit and in-class tools to help make "Scoring Through Education" a success.
  • As a participant in the program, each student receives a "Scoring Through Education" bookmark and folder. Teachers can use the bookmark to track the student's progress as each goal is reached.
  • When a student successfully completes all three of their goals, he or she will be rewarded with a ticket to a Chicago Fire Major League Soccer game at TOYOTA PARK. Family members will also have the opportunity to purchase additional discounted tickets.
  • On top of individual achievement, your entire school is eligible to earn a special reward. The school that has the most students complete the Scoring Through Education program will earn a special visit by Sparky, the Chicago Fire mascot, along with the Chicago Fire organization.
  • Your classroom will also have the option to enter a classroom decorating contest in which your students will decorate their classroom in a Chicago Fire theme. The most creative decorations will win a pizza party after the program ends.

SPARKY SOCCER

Through our Sparky Soccer program, the FireWorks For Kids Foundation, the charitable arm and community outreach partner of the Chicago Fire, is able to offer the chance for children with developmental disabilities and or special needs to participate in and experience the sport of soccer.

Each Sparky Soccer program features coaching from a professional Chicago Fire youth development coach, with exercises and games taken from the Fire's unique special needs-specific soccer curriculum, and training for 'Buddies', able bodied volunteers who guide and assist players through each session.

The FireWorks For Kids Foundation/Chicago Fire Sparky Soccer program works together with local and national partners to strive to meet our goal of providing essential ability-appropriate recreational activities, particularly soccer, to children with developmental disabilities.

For further information on the Sparky Soccer program, including forthcoming events and how to set-up a program in your community, please contact Jessica Yavitz at jyavitz@chicago-fire.com.

SCHOOL ASSEMBLY PROGRAM

This program, presented by Walgreens, consists of a 50 min assembly which talks about Asthma Awareness and Tobacco Prevention among students in 2nd- 6th grade. Each session includes discussions on lung and other health issues followed by an interactive soccer demonstration and Q & A with two Fire players. In recent years it has expanded to include seatbelt safety, sun safety and other healthy lifestyle messages.

Every student who participates receives a ticket voucher (2 for 1) good for a Chicago Fire game. This provides many children an opportunity to bring their families and experience the excitement of a Fire game.

MCDONALD'S GOLDEN GOALS

Over the course of the 2007 Chicago Fire Regular Season, the McDonald's Owners of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana have continued to support the FireWorks for Kids Foundation. Through the Golden Goals Donation Program, McDonald's will donate $100 to the FireWorks For Kids Foundation for every regular season goal scored at home by the Chicago Fire. The FireWorks For Kids Foundation will then match that sum and donate the entire amount to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. Last year during regular season play, your Chicago Fire scored a total of 16 goals, resulting in a donation of $1,600 to the FireWorks for Kids Foundation. FWFK presented a check worth $3,200 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities at the playoff match on October 2007. Thank you McDonalds!
